Geumgangsan, meaning diamond mountains, shoot up near the east coast, towering above the North
Korean side of Demilitalized Zone, the symbol of ideological demarcation. Geumgang mountains are
divided into three main areas; Neageumgang, the inner mountains; Oegeumgang, the outer mountains;
and Haegeumgang, the Sea Diamonds with ancient pines perched on tall rock columns stretching out
to a seaside lake and the East Sea.
On 18 Nov, 1998 the Geumgangsan-Diamond mountains tour was opened to South Koreans for the first
time. Since the South-North demarcation at the 38th parallel was implemented 50 years ago, this
tour became a torch shedding hopeful light on national reconciliation between the two nations as
well as popular tourist destination for South Koreans.
* A massage treatment program and a tour of the filming location for the famous Korean drama
Gyeoul Yeonga (Winter Sonata) will also be made available through a travel agency.

Changduk Palace - Worldcup Stadium - Insadong Antique Street - Itawon Shopping District
Changduk Palace
Changdeok Palace is composed of the public official space, the king's residence and the rear garden.
It is the only palace that preserves the architectural style of the Joseon Dynasty. The rear garden,
the former king's resting place, boasts 300-year-old trees, a gorgeous pond and pavilion that
harmoniously mix traditional architecture and nature.
World Cup Stadium
The architectural design reflects traditional Korean beauty and modern technological conveniences.
When seen from above, the stadium is configured in the shape of giant square shield kite. At night,
the roof displays the soft, warm colors of Changho-ji, or mulberry paper, used to make kites. Huge
25.1 by 9.2 meter high-definition digital screens on the north and south ends of the stadium allow
each spectator a clear, unobstructed view of a game.
Insadong Antique Street
Insadong is the place where you can experience the harmony of antique and modern art, and tradition
in the midst of hectic urban life. It is the place where you can purchase various traditional
handicrafts and ceramics which reflect the beat and taste of Korea.

[S-3] Gyeongbok Palace and Namdaemoon Open Market -- The Best of an Afternoon
13:00-18:00 29 Aug. Mon / $40
Changduk Palace - Worldcup Stadium - Insadong Antique Street - Itawon Shopping District
Gyeongbok Palace
The 40-acre Gyeongbok Palace was built in 1394 during the third year of the Joseon Dynasty.
Geunjungjon, the largest and most impressive building in the palace, served as a throne room
and an audience hall. Gyeonghoeru, a spacious two-story pavilion, overlooks a picturesque
man-made pond just northwest of the throne hall.
National Folk Museum
The National Folk Museum is in the Gyeongbok Palace complex. It explains the religious rituals,
housing customs, household tools and implements, food and social dynamics of traditional Korean life.
Namdaemoon Open Market
Namdaemun Open Market, the largest Korean traditional market located in the center of Seoul, gives
visitors the opportunity to taste local delicacies, shop, and view the daily life of busy Seoulites.
'NANTA' figuratively means reckless punching as in a slugfest at a boxing match. Our 'NANTA'
is a non-verbal performance of reckless rhythms that dramatize customary Korean percussion
in a strikingly comedic stage show. Integrating uniquely Korean traditional tempos with a
western performance style, NANTA storms on stage into a huge kitchen where four capricious
cooks are preparing a wedding banquet. While COOKIN', they turn all kinds of kitchen items
- pots, pans, dishes, knives, chopping board, water bottles, even brooms and each other-
into percussion instruments. Rhythm rules and audiences are swept along in the primitive
sound explosion and actions on stage. Though the performance is built primarily on captivating
rhythms and has very few spoken words, audiences of all ages and nationalities can easily
enjoy the plot and dramas.
[S-5] Panmunjeom and DMZ -- A Sacred Place of Nature and Peace
08:00-17:30 2 Sep, Fri / $70
Imjingak - Advanced Camp - Freedom House - Joint Security Area - Conference Room - Bridge of No Return
Korea is the only divided country in the world. After the Korean War (25 June, 1950), South Korea
and North Korea negotiated and then designated the DMZ (demilitarized zone) 2km away from the truce
line on each side of the border. As one of the last relics of the Cold War, the DMZ attracts a great
deal of public interest. DMZ tourist sites have been created to quench people's curiosity on this
unique area where tension and peace coincide.
