Geumgangsan, meaning diamond mountains, shoot up near the east coast, towering above the North Korean side of Demilitalized Zone, the symbol of ideological demarcation. Geumgang mountains are divided into three main areas; Neageumgang, the inner mountains; Oegeumgang, the outer mountains; and Haegeumgang, the Sea Diamonds with ancient pines perched on tall rock columns stretching out to a seaside lake and the East Sea.
On 18 Nov, 1998 the Geumgangsan-Diamond mountains tour was opened to South Koreans for the first time. Since the South-North demarcation at the 38th parallel was implemented 50 years ago, this tour became a torch shedding hopeful light on national reconciliation between the two nations as well as popular tourist destination for South Koreans.

[S-4] Nanta Non-verbal Performance
-- Fantastic Tonight
  • 19:00-22:00 1 Sep, Thu / $65
'NANTA' figuratively means reckless punching as in a slugfest at a boxing match. Our 'NANTA' is a non-verbal performance of reckless rhythms that dramatize customary Korean percussion in a strikingly comedic stage show. Integrating uniquely Korean traditional tempos with a western performance style, NANTA storms on stage into a huge kitchen where four capricious cooks are preparing a wedding banquet. While COOKIN', they turn all kinds of kitchen items - pots, pans, dishes, knives, chopping board, water bottles, even brooms and each other- into percussion instruments. Rhythm rules and audiences are swept along in the primitive sound explosion and actions on stage. Though the performance is built primarily on captivating rhythms and has very few spoken words, audiences of all ages and nationalities can easily enjoy the plot and dramas.

[S-5] Panmunjeom and DMZ
-- A Sacred Place of Nature and Peace
  • 08:00-17:30 2 Sep, Fri / $70

Korea is the only divided country in the world. After the Korean War (25 June, 1950), South Korea and North Korea negotiated and then designated the DMZ (demilitarized zone) 2km away from the truce line on each side of the border. As one of the last relics of the Cold War, the DMZ attracts a great deal of public interest. DMZ tourist sites have been created to quench people's curiosity on this unique area where tension and peace coincide.
*You must carry YOUR PASSPORT on tour day.
